susan mathison, md

Our Founder, Dr. Susan M. Mathison, is a Stanford-educated, triple-board certified physician. She’s received numerous accolades for leadership and Top Doctor for her clinical skills. Dr. Mathison has been the pioneer of the region, bringing Botox to Fargo over two decades ago!

While Dr. Mathison enjoys helping patients in many ways, Facial Plastic Surgery is her main focus of passion and expertise. Facial plastic surgery offers cosmetic or reconstructive medical care to the face, head, and neck. It is a specialty within the field of otolaryngology, also known as ear, nose, and throat medicine. Facial plastic surgery usually reshapes specific parts of the head and neck, including the nose, ears, chin, cheekbones, and neck or jawline. This might include:

  • Skin cancer reconstruction
  • Birthmark removal by laser or surgery
  • Brow lifts
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Facelifts
  • Rhinoplasty (nose job)
  • Lip lifts
  • Buccal fat removal
  • Plus, many non-invasive and  minimally invasive treatments like injectables, lasers and skin care.

Dr. Mathison has helped many children with facial injuries from dog bites or falls, and has done surgery for women who’ve suffered from domestic violence.

She is involved in several organizations in the Fargo-Moorhead community, including Dakota Medical Foundation, TedXFargo, and The Choice Financial Board.

kinsey nelson, md

Dr. Kinsey Nelson is a board certified family physician that strives to provide high quality, comprehensive healthcare to patients of all ages. With more than 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Nelson excels at treating a wide variety of medical conditions ranging from acute concerns to complex chronic disease management as well as focusing on preventative care and health promotion. In addition to improving the health of his patients, Dr. Nelson greatly values the relationships that he is able to build with his patients and their families as a primary care provider. Areas of interest include management of diabetes, asthma/COPD, heart disease, kidney disease, orthopedics/sports medicine, mental health as well as well-child care, men’s and women’s health.

Dr. Nelson received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis, MN. He completed his residency at the United Family Medicine Residency Program in Saint Paul, MN where he also completed a post-graduate Fourth Year of Mastery. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Nelson is married and he and his wife have 2 young children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, bicycling, cross country skiing and playing the cello.

taylor fontaine, pa-c

Taylor chose to become a Physician Assistant after working as a Paramedic for 8 years. He was excited to use the knowledge and skills from his first career and expand on it in a new role as a medical provider.

Taylor’s areas of expertise include Allergy treatment and diagnosis, ENT (ear, nose and throat), and dermatology. He sees most of Catalyst’s patients at one time or another in their treatment journey.

When he’s not busy helping patients, his world revolves around his lovely wife and two young boys. They are a BUSY family! Taylor helps coach his boys’ hockey, baseball, flag football, golf, and soccer teams. If there is any free time left you can usually find him on the golf course in the summer or catching a UND hockey game in the winter.

Taylor Fontaine is a Board Certified Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). He maintains active licensure through North Dakota and Minnesota.

kayla nelson, dnp

Dr. Kayla Nelson is a family nurse practitioner who provides comprehensive, full spectrum primary care to patients of all ages. Kayla is devoted to providing quality, holistic healthcare to patients of all ages and focuses on health promotion and disease prevention to improve the health and well-being of individuals, families, and the community as a whole.

Kayla has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of North Dakota and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from North Dakota State University. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and licensed with the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

She has over 6 years of experience in full spectrum primary care including chronic disease management, acute care, preventative health, mental illness, substance use disorders, and treatment of hepatitis C. Kayla is also a member of the North Dakota Nurse Practitioner Association and serves on the Cass County Board of Health.

Kayla is married with two young children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, baking, gardening, and being outdoors.

heidi saarinen, dnp, fnp-c

Heidi is a nurse practitioner who specializes in treating sleep concerns, such as:

  • Snoring
  • Pauses in breathing/Sleep Apnea
  • Difficulty breathing at night
  • Daytime Sleepiness
  • Restless Leg Symptoms
  • Leg movements in sleep
  • Restless sleep
  • Insomnia (difficulty going to sleep or staying asleep)
  • Sleepwalking, talking, or eating
  • Bruxism or grinding of teeth
  • Dream enactment
  • Nightmares

She is passionate about educating individuals, families, and the community on how to improve sleep and sleep habits. She enjoys listening to people and walking with them in their health journeys with a special interest in patient education, health promotion, and disease prevention.

She has over 20 years in healthcare and has spent the last 12 years as a nurse practitioner in Sleep Medicine, 1.5 years in Pediatrics/Family Practice, and 9 years as faculty in both the BSN Registered Nursing and DNP Nurse Practitioner programs at North Dakota State University.

She volunteers in several organizations in the local community, one of which is Bison Strides where she assists children with disabilities in horse therapy. She is also a member of the North Dakota Nurse Practitioner Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty.

Heidi is blessed to live in the local community with her incredible husband, Seth, and two amazing children, a 14-yearold son and 6-year-old daughter. She cherishes her faith in Jesus Christ, spending time with family, a good read, the art of photography, and learning new skills.

She received her bachelor’s in nursing from North Dakota State University (NDSU) and worked for over five years as a registered nurse (RN) in the hospital setting. She then obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from NDSU to obtain certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2010 with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

lana meyer, fnp-c

Lana specializes in treating women and their families. It’s her passion to help women be healthy so they can care for their families. She has a specific interest in helping women balance their hormones through bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, nutrition, and exercise.

In her own words, “I am not sure I chose this particular area of women’s health, but more, it chose me, and I am so thankful I am able to help! I also love treating the whole family, including children and men of all ages.”

Lana is a single mother of 5 grown children, Spencer-25, Autumn-23, Rachael-22, and Ryan and Ross-19. She finds immense joy in spending time with her children; they are amazing humans, and she beams with pride for them! Though Lana is now an empty nester, her house is made more full with 2 dogs (Ginger and Daisy), a cat (Marvin) and a fish (Roy).

Lana enjoys staying healthy by eating healthy, lifting weights, riding my gravel bike, spending time with friends and family, and being outdoors.

Lana Meyer is AANP (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners) certified.

brandi rostad, rn, rvt

Brandi spent the first 3 years of her career as a charge nurse in long term care, followed by 4 years of traveling across the US and training physicians/clinicians and staff on aesthetic laser equipment. She became a Sclerotherpist in 2007 and a registered vascular tech RVT in 2009.

Brandi has a hefty 20 years of experience in treating varicose and cosmetic veins. She loves the vein industry because she’s been able to help SO many people with the comprehensive vein care approach. She also loves educating people about veins & treatments, and witnessing the instant gratification as the veins disappear immediately upon injection! 

In her own words, “I love team Catalyst because of the ‘patient centered’ care that is at the forefront of our values. You are not just a number here, that is for sure! It will be a great collaboration as Dr. Mathison adds comprehensive vein care to what Catalyst Medical already has to offer.” 

Outside of work, Brandi loves spending time with her boyfriend Brock, her two kiddos Taya & Grady, and their dogs Harper & Hazel.  She also enjoys yoga, the ocean and sunshine, wine, and good food.

Brandi graduated from Concordia College Tri Nursing Consortium in 2002. She has also served on the board for HERO Fargo for 9 years, and is currently in her 3rd year as Board Chair.

jessica gardner, np-c

Jessica (Jess) Gardner brings to Catalyst thirteen years of experience as a nurse practitioner. She is primarily located in Jamestown to provide ENT, Allergy, and Dermatology services to the community she not only loves, but also grew up in.

After graduating from Jamestown High School, Jess attended the University of North Dakota where she participated in track and cross country while obtaining her degree in nursing. After college, she enjoyed working in the NICU at MeritCare (now Sanford) in Fargo as an RN for several years.

Outside of work, Jess’s life stays pretty busy! She has 5 daughters and 4 bunnies that she adores. On top of that, she runs an occasional marathon and is an assistant cross country coach for the Jamestown Blue Jays. Her husband Ken is a teacher at Jamestown High School, as well as the head coach of the cross country team and the boys’ track and field team.

Jess received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North Dakota and is a certified family nurse practitioner. The first 5 years of her career as a nurse practitioner were spent in primary care at Medcenter One (now Sanford) in Jamestown. The following 8.5 years were spent as an NP at the Anne Carlsen Center, also in Jamestown. She is thankful for the great experiences she had while working with her former patients and coworkers.

Kinsey Johnson, np-C

Kinsey grew up in Fargo and is excited that she gets to provide care to those in the community and surrounding area. Kinsey became a Nurse Practitioner after working as an emergency room registered nurse for nearly 5 years. She is passionate about providing high-quality care to patients and determining an individualized treatment plan. 

 In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She enjoys going to the lake, golfing, playing pickleball, attending UND hockey games, reading a good book, and being outdoors. 

Kinsey has a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from South Dakota State University and a Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree from the University of North Dakota. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and licensed by the North Dakota and Minnesota Boards of Nursing. 

jenna mazour, np

Jenna began her healthcare career over 20 years ago as a volunteer. She eventually started working as a nursing assistant, then as a nurse, nurse-manager, wound care specialist, and then a nurse practitioner.

Her love for dermatology stemmed from her wound care experience and nursing background where she learned that dermatology is not just skin deep but what presents on the surface. Skin conditions can have a physical and emotional impact on a patient. Jenna is passionate about treating the whole person and identifying a well-executed treatment plan that will be successful for each and every patient. She sees dermatology patients of all ages for many different skin and scalp conditions including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, hair loss, skin cancer, and more.

Jenna lives in the beautiful lakes country of Detroit Lakes, MN with my husband and daughter. She enjoys water sports, tennis, and spending time with family.

Jenna holds a WCC (wound care certification) through the National Alliance of Wound Care and FNP certification (family nurse practitioner) through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Board.
